The Lord is My Shepherd | Part 1

Aug 18, 2024    Les Harvey

Psalm 23 (NIV)

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

1. The Lord - YWHW

Mark 12:29–30 (NIV)

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’

✔️ He is eternal.

✔️ He is self-existent.

✔️ He is changeless.

2. Is

Exodus 3:14 (NIV)

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ”

John 8:58 (NIV)

“Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”

Hebrews 13:8 (NIV)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

✔️Because He lives, I can live free from yesterday, focused on today, without fear for tomorrow.

3. My

Matthew 16:15–16 (NIV)

“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

A person with an experience is never at the mercy of someone with an argument.

4. Shepherd - Jehovah-Raah

Raah = Companion; Friend

Genesis 48:15–16 (NIV)

Then he blessed Joseph and said, “May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked faithfully, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day, 16 the Angel who has delivered me from all harm —may he bless these boys. May they be called by my name

and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they increase greatly on the earth.”

John 10:11 (NIV)

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
