House Rules Part 3

(Romans 12:10) Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.

WHO DO WE HONOR?

1. Others

(Philippians 2:3-4) Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

2. Authority

(Romans 13:1-2) Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

✔️ Government.

✔️ Workplace/school.

 ✔️ Family.

✔️ Spiritual.

(1 Timothy 2:1-4) I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

3. Parents

(Ephesians 6:2-3) "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise--"that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."

4. Age

(Leviticus 19:32) Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD.

(Job 12:12) Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?

5. Nature

(Genesis 1:28) God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

6. God

(Psalm 29:2) Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.

(Psalm 34:3 NKJV) Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together.

(Proverbs 3:9) Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops.

HOW DO WE HONOR?

1. Prioritize it.

✔️Whatever is first is honored.

Proverbs 3:9 Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops.

Proverbs 3:9 MSG Honor GOD with everything you own; give him the first and the best.

2. Praise it.

✔️Our words either honor or dishonor.

James 3:9-10 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.

Ephesians 4:29-30 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God.

3. Pursue it.

Matthew 15:8 These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

✔️Actions speak louder than words.

4. Protect it.

✔️The more you value it, the more you value from it.

John 7:18 He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.

VESSELS OF HONOR

2 Timothy 2:20-21 (NKJV) But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.

Proverbs 15:33 The fear of the LORD teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor.

Proverbs 18:12 Before his downfall a man's heart is proud, but humility comes before honor.

Proverbs 22:4 Humility and the fear of the LORD bring wealth and honor and life.

Proverbs 29:23 A man's pride brings him low, but a man of lowly spirit gains honor.

✔️Humility is the key to honor.
